Prenatal Visits at Arrowhead Women’s Center
At Arrowhead Women’s Center, we value the importance of prenatal care. Our practice offers a wide array of tests and services to ensure that a baby is cared for starting in the womb and beyond.
Most pregnant women will see their physician ten to fifteen times for prenatal visits. With this amount of visits, we want you to see someone whom you trust and feel comfortable with during each stage of your pregnancy. Our team is dedicated to providing you with excellent patient care and services to ensure that you are receiving the tests and treatments you and your baby require in a comfortable setting.
What to Expect During Your Prenatal Visits
Your first prenatal visit at Arrowhead Women’s Center typically occurs around 8-weeks of pregnancy. During this visit, our physicians evaluate your health history and find out information about the following:
- Menstrual cycles and regularity
- First day of your last period to determine your due date
- Symptoms you have noticed since your last pregnancy
- Any gynecological issues you have or have encountered in the past
- Information about any previous pregnancies
- Habits that could impact your pregnancy
- Family medical history
During your first visit, we may discuss different types of screenings and tests that can give you information about your child’s risk of chromosomal issues such as Down Syndrome and other birth defects. A physical, Pap smear, cultures, and urine sample may all be performed so that our physicians have the most accurate information about you possible.
Your first visit with our Arrowhead Women’s Center team is typically the longest. After this point, your visits will take place approximately every 4 weeks to find out more information about how you are feeling, learning about the appropriate amount of weight gain during pregnancy, your blood pressure status, and to discuss necessary tests and procedures. During these visits, you are welcome to ask any questions that you have about your pregnancy, and express any concerns that you have about your health.
We will also discuss some of the decisions that you will need to make about your pregnancy including specific genetic testing, labor techniques and breathing, epidural injections during labor, and post-labor information. We work with you to understand what your preferences are, and customize a plan that will suit both you and the baby’s health best.
