Menopause Management and Hormone Replacement

Managing Menopause

Menopause is the phase of life when a woman’s menstrual periods stop.  The years leading the point where menstruation ends is called perimenopause.  Menstruation may start and stop for a periods of time, so only after a full year without periods is a woman said to be in full menopause.

For most women, menopause usually takes place around the age of 50, but no two women are the same.  Some women experience menopause in their early 40’s while others experience it in their late 50’s.

During the years leading to menopause, women may notice certain changes in their bodies and moods.  Symptoms of menopause can include:

  • Irregular periods that may be lighter or heavier, come less often or more often, or periods that may last longer or shorter than normal.
  • Hot flashes that cause the face and neck to feel flush, heat rushing all over the body, and heaving sweating and cold sweats post-hot flash.
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Night sweats
  • Vaginal and urinary issues
  • Drier vaginal tissue
  • Vaginal infections
  • An increase in urinary tract infections
  • Incontinence
  • Mood swings
  • Feeling stiff or achy
  • Losing muscle and gaining fat
