Insurance companies are now required to cover women’s preventive care without any copay, deductible or out-of-pocket expense.
Preventive care focuses on evaluating your current health status when you are symptom free. Preventive care also allows you to obtain early diagnosis and treatment, to help avoid more serious health problems.
What services may be included?
- Well-women visits
- Permanent birth control methods: Essure* Permanent Birth Control and tubal ligation
- Hormonal and barrier birth control methods: Pills, patches, condoms, and other methods
- Screening and counseling for sexually transmitted infections (STI), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing
- Other types of screening procedures

*Some restrictions may apply. Based on Women’s Preventive Care section of the Affordable Care Act effective as of August 1, 2012. If services are performed by an out-of-network provider, you will likely be responsible for a co-pay or deductible.
